Set or Change a Card’s Spending Limits

Set daily and monthly spending limits on a card, and understand why a limit may be rejected.

Daily and monthly spending limits control how much a card can spend during each period. They don’t add funds to the card.

  • Limits: daily and monthly, set at issuance or changed later

  • Funds: the linked account must also have enough available funds for the payment and applicable charges

  • Rule: the daily limit can’t be higher than the monthly limit

Set Limits When Issuing

Choose the daily and monthly limits in the issuance flow. See Issue One or More Cards.

Change an Existing Card

  1. Open the card.

  2. In Overview, find the spending-limit section.

  3. Select Edit.

  4. Enter the daily and monthly limits.

  5. Review and save.

Why a Limit May Be Rejected

  • The daily limit can’t be higher than the monthly limit.

  • Your organization can set ceilings on the amounts assigned to a card.

  • A User may have lower ceilings through their account permissions.

  • The card product can impose its own limits. For Ads Cards, see Ads Cards Limits.

These controls apply alongside the card product’s maximums.

Organization Spending Limit

The organization also has a total monthly spending limit across its cards. See Organization Limits and Card Issuance Allowances for the amount and the process for requesting a change.

Raising a card’s daily or monthly limit doesn’t raise the organization’s total spending limit.

A Higher Limit Is Needed

The form won’t accept the amount? Ask your Owner or Admin to check the applicable ceilings. They can contact Kolo if a review of the organization’s limits is needed.

Increasing a spending limit doesn’t increase an issuance allowance. Card-count limits are explained in Organization Limits and Card Issuance Allowances.
